Finding Creative Ways to Donate Through a Recession

Big Foot Moving & Storage, Inc. donates services to local charities

In these lean times, many businesses approach charitable contributions with caution. Others, like Big Foot Moving & Storage, Inc. of Arlington, MA use creativity to support local non-profit organizations.

As an active member of the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce, Big Foot Moving & Storage, Inc. uncovered an opportunity to help several organizations that rely heavily on donations. Recently, the Kitchen Center of Framingham redesigned and expanded their showroom, donating many kitchen cabinets and countertops to local non-profits for silent auctions and fundraising activities. Mike Bavuso, President of Big Foot Moving & Storage, Inc., realized there was a need for the transport of these items and decided to get involved.

In partnership with Dave Bartlett, President of the Kitchen Center and a fellow Metrowest Chamber member, the following nonprofit groups were assisted;

• Programs For People, Inc., a treatment and rehabilitation center for adults with mental illness in Framingham, Mass.
• The Learning Center for the Deaf, a day and resident school for the hearing impaired, headquartered in Framingham, Mass.
• Voices Against Violence, an agency in Framingham, Mass. that provides services to MetroWest victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.
• Why Me, Inc., an organization in Worcester, Mass. that provides support to New England families dealing with childhood cancer

“When we are forced to rein in spending in tough economic times, non-profit organizations are affected. It’s not always about donating money though,” commented Mike Bavuso. “The services you provide, when networked creatively, can be the charitable contribution and simply make a difference.”
